Shopmobility

From our premises in the Brooks Centre Car Park we operate a fleet of 50 Electric Scooters, Power Chairs and Manual Chairs, which can be hired for the day, or multiples thereof (maximum 2 weeks) allowing those with mobility limitations to have access to the City of Winchester, where there is a Shopmobility Trail around the city Centre.

Upon registering with us you will be trained in the use of the equipment so that you can confidently take to the streets and enjoy your visit. Should you wish to hire equipment for several days, or take it away with you, this can be arranged. Additionally we can meet you from your car, taxi or Dial-a-Ride bus etc. and can deliver/collect equipment, subject to a volunteer being available, so that you can still access the service. In the interest of safety Electric Scooters are limited to 4 mph. You have the choice of joining our scheme for a year and, as a result, you will get preferential rates.

We have parking bays outside of our Office , which is on the Upper Parking Level of The Brooks Shopping Centre, we are open Mon - Fri 0900 to 1630, please note Equipment to be returned by 1615.

For full details please call us on 01962 842626 or email winchestershopmobility@waca.org.uk.

From our Shopmobility office in the Brooks Shopping Centre Car Park (Upper Parking level) we operate a fleet of bicycles which, once you have signed our registration document and paid your annual registration fee of £20 per individual or £35 for a joint membership, canbe loaned for a period of up to 24 hours. Upon approval at the discretion of WACA, Bikeabout Bicycles may be loaned for an extended period of up to 1 month (a penalty of up to £10 per day may be issued if the Bikeabout Bicycle is returned after the agreed loan period) By using Bikeabout you can move around the local area safe in the knowledge that you are not harming the environment and, as a bonus are keeping yourself fit.

Upon registering with us you will be supplied (free of charge) with a cycle helmet and reflective tabard so as to help make your use of our cycles as safe as possible. All of our cycles are maintained in our own workshop by an experienced Technician so as to always provide you with a safe and fully functional piece of equipment.

Should you wish to travel into town by car and then convert to “pedal power” you will be able to access cycles from St.Catherine’s Park and Ride, or Gladstone Street Car Park near the railway station, as well as from the Tourist Information Centreand of course Shopmobility in the Brooks Centre.

If you would like to return the cycle to a different point from that where it was collected, this too can be accommodated, as long as you agree this with us at the time you take the cycle out.

So if you want to get about and at the same time help in the fight against Global Warming, what better way to start than to combine it with some good old fashioned exercise courtesy of a Bikeabout Cycle from Winchester Area Community Action or the Tourist Information Centre?
