Specialist projects:
The majority of our advocates are volunteers but we also have 3 part time members of staff who support specific groups of people:
Learning Disability Advocacy workers
Our learning disability advocacy workers support people with low to high level needs. Their role is to support people to be able to access information about their rights and opportunities, to help them make real choices about their lives and to support them in making their choices become a reality.
Please contact Alice Webb, Manager, Winchester District Advocacy Project (01962 848023) or awebb@waca.org.uk if you would like more information.
Just Us
We facilitate the Just Us group, which meets in Winchester every two weeks. Just Us is a self- advocacy group for adults with a learning disability. Using music and drama therapies, Just Us aims to provide a safe and friendly environment for members to meet and enjoy each others company.
Please contact Alice Webb, Manager Winchester District Advocacy Project (01962 848023) or awebb@waca.org.uk if you would like more information.
Independent Mental Capacity Advocate
The Mental Capacity Act came into force 1 April 2007. It provides a statutory framework for people who lack capacity to make decisions for themselves.
Under the act a new role of Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) has been created to help and represent people who do not have the capacity to make certain significant decisions. The Hampshire Regional Advocacy Group (HARG) has secured a contract with Hampshire County Council to provide IMCA services across the county and we are a member of that consortium. To find out more about IMCA services please phone 01256 478999, email imca@hampshireadvocacy.org.uk or see the HARG website www.hampshireadvocacy.org.uk
